Patient Testimonial – Austin Ault

When unexpected injuries or illnesses happen, it can be scary and overwhelming. As a patient, you want to know you’re being cared for with the utmost attention and compassion. For Austin Ault, he felt reassured during his time at Logansport Memorial, knowing that our dedicated team was alongside him every step of the way, including the Emergency Room, Medical/Surgical, Surgery, and Orthopedics.

Austin says…

“My wife and I were in the process of building our house, and I was finishing up late on April 17 when my finger got shut in between the panels of the garage door. My wife brought me to the ER where I was assessed and referred to Orthopedics. At the time, it was determined that I had broken my finger, and a treatment plan would be implemented once I was seen by Dr. Varhan.

The next morning, I called to schedule my appointment. The Patient Access Specialist was super friendly and extremely helpful. She noted that my appointment would be Friday, April 19 at 9 am, and mentioned that after Dr. Varhan got into the office and looked over the images she would call back if any additional images were needed. About 20 minutes later, I received a phone call saying I needed to report back to the ER to get IV antibiotics, as I would need to have surgery Friday, after my appointment.

After I received my antibiotics, I was sent home and began prepping for surgery the following day. On Friday, I reported to Orthopedics where Dr. Varhan explained the injury, the type of surgery I would be having, and the post-operative care plan. I was instructed to report to the surgery waiting room, as I would need another two rounds of antibiotics. Since I was an emergency add-on, my surgery did not take place until later in the afternoon, however, the whole ambulatory team was incredibly helpful and great at keeping me comfortable and calm.

Since my injury was an open break and a temporary pin placement, I was transferred upstairs to the Medical/Surgical floor where I had to stay overnight for observation and more antibiotics. The medical staff on the floor was exceptional and made myself and my wife feel extremely comfortable. My follow-up care with Courtney Schroder in Orthopedics went great, including the pin removal.

We live in Peru, and when my wife came to get me to take me to the ER, we both knew we needed to go to Logansport Memorial. At the time, we didn’t know the extent of the injury, but we knew that if it was serious or needed surgery, we could do it all 20 minutes from home. The entire team at Logansport Memorial, beginning to end, was amazing and made this scary process one that was easy and comforting.”
